Welcome to Ridgeview Middle School

 Home of the Wolfpack!

September 28, 2018

Dear students, parents and guardians:

October is going to be another busy month for our students and faculty, with several trips planned.

Below are a few of the upcoming events:

Our eighth grade students will be attending UVA-Wise as part of the state career investigation requirements. They got to attend MECC earlier this month. The south quad will go on Wednesday, October 3rd and the north quad will go on Thursday, October 4th.

Deposits for yearbooks begin Monday, October 1st, with order forms going home today. Sales will continue through Friday, October 12th. Full price is $30 and deposits are $20. Students can stop by the office in the morning to make payments.

Our third annual Energy Expo is scheduled for Thursday, October 4th at Ridgeview Middle School for all of our sixth grade students. Guest speakers have already started coming in the days prior to this event to meet with the students and help increase their understanding about geology, coal, natural gas, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

A Drug Awareness and Prevention program is scheduled for all middle school students at 10:00 on Friday, October 5th. If you do not want your child to attend the program, please complete the form on the back of this page and return it to school no later than Wednesday morning, October 3rd.  If we do not receive the form, they will be allowed to go to the program.

Sixth grade students will have their first nine weeks reward trip on Monday, October 8th, and will travel to Cleek Farms in Kingsport, Tennessee.

The end of the first nine weeks is Tuesday, October 9th. An Open House is scheduled for Monday, October 15th, from 5:00 to 7:00. Report cards will be available that night.

Club meetings are scheduled for Friday, October 12th. Flu vaccinations are also scheduled for that afternoon. Students need to turn in their vaccination forms prior to that day.

The McGruff Dog is scheduled to be at Ridgeview Middle School on Monday, October 15th, and will have a program for the middle school students.

The seventh grade students are scheduled to have their first nine week reward trip to Cinema City and Mr. Gatti’s, with the south quad going on Friday, October 19th, and the north quad going on Friday, October 26th.

Ridgeview Middle School will not be allowing costumes at the school on Wednesday, October 31st. However, we will continue last year’s Halloween Hat day, where middle school students can wear decorative hats, bandannas or head bands to school. Plans are to have contests between the different rooms, quads and grades to see who has the best head gear. Even though wearing hats will be allowed that day, all head apparel needs to stay within school board policy and guidelines. No masks or extra make-up will be allowed.

With sincere thanks,  John R. Whitner

Any parent who does not want their child to attend the Drug Awareness and Prevention program needs to complete, detach and return note below to the Ridgeview Middle School office by Tuesday morning, October 2nd.            .

Dear students, parents and guardians:

I hope that everyone is having a great summer and enjoying their vacation. I just have a few items I want to share in preparation for this upcoming school year.

Report cards from this past year can still be picked up at the middle school office between the hours of 9:00 and 2:00.

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 7th. School now starts at 8:00 and ends at 3:00.

Parents of the incoming sixth grade students are reminded that their children have to have their Tdap shots and those shot records turned in to the guidance office before they can attend school this fall.

Supply lists for the 2018—2019 school year can be found under the “For Parents/Students” tab on the Ridgeview Middle School website. After clicking on that tab, scroll down to the bottom and click on the tab “Supply List 2018-19,” where you will find supply lists for each grade level. We have asked the grade level teachers to condense their lists so that the items will be the same regardless of which group of teachers a student will have. Walmart is also supposed to have a copy of the supply lists in their store in Wise.

Open Houses are scheduled during the first week in August so that parents and students can receive their schedules with their locker assignments and meet with their teachers.

On Wednesday, August 1st, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the 6th grade Open House will be held at Ridgeview Middle School. The Open House will begin with an opening program in the auditorium at 5:00. Lilly Thacker, the school nurse, plans on being here to meet with parents.

On Thursday, August 2nd, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the 7th and 8th grade Open House will be held at Ridgeview Middle School. The Open House will also begin with an opening program in the auditorium at 5:00.

I am looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming Open House.

With sincere thanks,

John R. Whitner
