Dear students, parents and guardians:
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Ridgeview Middle School will focus each week on different aspects of bullying with videos and discussion during the class periods. The present schedule is as follows: October 6th —10th , “What is bullying?” October 13th —17th , “Where does bullying take place?” October 20th —24th , “Why does bullying happen?” October 2th —3rd , “Who can stop bullying?” On the first Monday of each week, beginning October 6th , students and faculty are encouraged to wear blue to represent Bully Prevention Awareness Month. If the weather permits, interested students will be taking a walk around the campus on Mondays in hopes that feeling better about themselves improves their outlooks on others.
Below are a few of the upcoming events:
After school tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays has begun for students needing help with math and reading. Anyone interested in receiving extra help should let their student’s teacher or Mr. Whitner know.
The middle school volleyball team plays Union tomorrow, September 30th and the middle school football teams plays Union Monday, October 13th .
On Monday, October 6th , the 6th grade students are scheduled to go to UVA-Wise for a STEM trip. The 7th grade students also have a reward trip scheduled that day for Camp Jacob.
There is a PTO meeting on Wednesday, October 8th , at 4:00. We encourage everyone to attend.
The end of the first nine weeks is Thursday, October 9th . The RMS Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14th from 5:00—7:00. Report cards will be given out that night.
Ridgeview Middle School will have its third annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 11th , for elementary and middle school students in the cafeteria. The doors will open at 4:00 p.m. and provide games, train rides, a bouncy house and other activities until 7:00 that night. All children up through 8th grade are invited to attend with their parents, grandparents and guardians.
Fentanyl Awareness Day will be Thursday, October 23rd . The sixth through eighth grade students will visit the exhibits that afternoon during school. A follow-up Family night is scheduled for that afternoon for sixth through twelfth grade students and their families.
The 5th grade students have a trip planned for Wednesday, October 29th , to Camp Jacob.
Ridgeview Middle School will have a Halloween Literacy Day on Friday, October 31st . Each grade level is focusing on reading events with a Halloween theme. Some of the grade level students will rotate through classrooms on their floor to get a different reading experience in each class. Students will be allowed to wear Halloween costumes that are within the dress code, but no Halloween masks or look-a-like weapons are allowed.
