Dear students, parents and guardians:

The state required VALLSS testing is going on at this time. Middle schools are now required to test everyone who did not pass the Reading SOL test and everyone who has a reading accommodation. Individual reading plans will be set up for each one of those students and a copy will be sent home to their parents.

Below are a few of the upcoming events:

Midterm progress reports are to go home tomorrow, September 10th, for those students who are making D’s and F’s and for those students whose parents have requested a report.

The next home middle school football game is Monday, September 15th against Union. The middle school volleyball girls play home Thursday, September 18th against Central, Monday, September 22nd against Lee and Tuesday, September 30th against Union.

A Pro-Arts program is scheduled for our middle school students on Wednesday, September 17th.

Our next PTO meeting is Thursday, September 18th, at 5:00. We encourage everyone to attend.

Schools are scheduled to dismiss at 12:00 on Friday, September 19th, so students who want to attend the family events at the Dickenson County Fair can do so.

Homecoming spirit week for RMS and RHS is Monday through Friday, September 22nd through 26th. Information about the activities will be available by next week.

Representatives from Food City presented a check for $3,827 this year to Ridgeview Middle School. Thanks to everyone who signed up last year and helped support our school with your participation! The Food City School Bucks Program began last Wednesday and will continue through Tuesday, May 5th. We are asking everyone to help us again by going online to https://foodcity.com/SCHOOLBUCKS and choose Ridgeview Middle School, Clintwood, VA.  . Reminder: everyone has to register or reactivate their Food City Value Card every year.

Ridgeview Middle School will have its third annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 11th, from 4:00 to 7:00, for elementary and middle school students. More information will follow.

Two reminders:

First, all students coming to watch home middle school, JV or varsity ballgames have to either ride the bus home or be picked up by the parent . Supervision is not provided for students after school, so students are not allowed to stay after school.

Second, due to medical concerns and health risks for students under age 16 who drink energy drinks such as Monster, Rockstar, Red Bull and NOS, energy drinks are not allowed at Ridgeview Middle School during the school day.

Again, we appreciate your support. If you have any concerns, please call me at 835-1601.

Thank you, John R. Whitner
