April 30,2024

Dear students, parents and guardians:
April has been a very active month. The seventh and eighth grade students got to attend the first
CTE Showcase at the high school, where they visited the different career and vocational
classrooms to see what classes they can take at the high school. The sixth grade students attended
the Groundwater Festival, and participated in the activities that support their classroom studies.

Below are a few of the upcoming events in May:
The RHS/RMS concert choir will perform on Thursday, May 2 nd , at 7:00 in the auditorium.
The parents/guardians who signed a chrome book agreement form will need to return their
chrome books, cases and chargers by Friday, May 10 th . The chrome books are to go to the
homeroom teachers. We ask that the student name be placed in the pocket of the case. These are
not the chrome books that the students won with the attendance incentive.

SOL testing begins this month. The main part of our SOL testing begins next week. Sixth,
seventh and eighth grade students will have their math SOL tests Tuesday, May 7 th . On
Wednesday, May 8 th ,
all three grade levels are scheduled to take their reading SOL tests. The
seventh grade students will have their civics SOL test and the eighth grade students will have
their science SOL tests on Thursday, May 9 th . Eighth grade World Geography students will have
that test on Friday, May 10 th . Expedited retakes are scheduled for the following Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, May 14 th , 15 th , 16 th and 17 th . Students are encouraged to
get a good night’s sleep before their tests and show up on time in the morning for their tests.

A PTO meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 16 th , at 4:00. A “PTO Bash” for all of the
students is scheduled on Thursday, May 23 rd .

Schools are closed Monday, May 27 th , for the Memorial Day holiday.

An eighth grade graduation program is scheduled for Tuesday night, May 28 th , at 6:00 in the
RHS gym. Students will need to be there by 5:30 for line-up. Parents are encouraged to get here
early, because Ridgeview Elementary School also has their kindergarten graduation that night.

Award programs are scheduled for Wednesday, May 29 th , in the auditorium. Sixth grade awards
will begin at 8:30 and seventh grade awards will begin at 9:30.
The last day of school is Wednesday, May 29 th . Ridgeview Middle School will dismiss at 12:30.

We are offering four weeks and two days of additional instruction in math and reading, beginning
on Monday, June 3 rd and continuing through Tuesday, July 2 nd for our middle school students.
The focus of the Summer Academy will be on the math and reading skills that students need for
the next school year. Bus transportation, as well as breakfast and lunch, will be provided. Please
call our office if you are interested in your child attending.

Several reward activities are scheduled toward the end of this month. The classroom teachers will
share that information with their students.

Thank you. John R. Whitner

July 13, 2018

Dear students, parents and guardians:

I hope that everyone is having a great summer and enjoying their vacation. I just have a few items I want to share in preparation for this upcoming school year.

Report cards from this past year can still be picked up at the middle school office between the hours of 9:00 and 2:00.

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 7th. School now starts at 8:00 and ends at 3:00.

Parents of the incoming sixth grade students are reminded that their children have to have their Tdap shots and those shot records turned in to the guidance office before they can attend school this fall.

Supply lists for the 2018—2019 school year can be found under the “For Parents/Students” tab on the Ridgeview Middle School website. After clicking on that tab, scroll down to the bottom and click on the tab “Supply List 2018-19,” where you will find supply lists for each grade level. We have asked the grade level teachers to condense their lists so that the items will be the same regardless of which group of teachers a student will have. Walmart is also supposed to have a copy of the supply lists in their store in Wise.

Open Houses are scheduled during the first week in August so that parents and students can receive their schedules with their locker assignments and meet with their teachers.

On Wednesday, August 1st, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the 6th grade Open House will be held at Ridgeview Middle School. The Open House will begin with an opening program in the auditorium at 5:00. Lilly Thacker, the school nurse, plans on being here to meet with parents.

On Thursday, August 2nd, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the 7th and 8th grade Open House will be held at Ridgeview Middle School. The Open House will also begin with an opening program in the auditorium at 5:00.

I am looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming Open House.

With sincere thanks,

John R. Whitner

August 15, 2019

Dear students, parents and guardians:

Welcome back! Thank you for all of your help in making these first two weeks a success.

As we have done each year, we will be practicing evacuation drills and lockdown drills over the next several weeks.

Below are a few of the upcoming events:

Tomorrow, August 16th, Photogenius will be taking fall pictures of all of the students for the yearbook and for personal purchase. Packets for picture orders should be available soon.

The deadline for applications to be turned in for 7th and/or 8th grade students interested in being a member of the RMS Robotics Team Fuzion is Friday, August 30th Applications are available in the office. All completed applications are to be given to Mrs. Fields in room C219.

The sixth grade students will be attending the annual Groundwater Festival on Friday, August 30th. More information will be sent home with the students prior to that event.

The middle school volleyball team have home games scheduled for Monday, August 26th, against Twin Springs, Monday, September 16th, against Norton, Wednesday, September 25th against Central and Monday, September 30th against Union.

Three reminders: First, the two normal methods for RMS students being picked up after school are either by parents driving around the bus lane after the buses come through and meeting their children at the nearest available cone, or by parents or siblings walking across the bus lane street and escorting their children across the road to their car. Middle school students are not to cross the bus lane road or walk through the parking lot unless accompanied by an adult or high school sibling.

Second, all students coming to watch home middle school, JV or varsity ballgames have to either ride the bus home or be picked up by the parent and then brought back later to the school for those games. Supervision is not provided for student spectators after school, so students are not allowed to stay after school.

Third, due to medical concerns and health risks for students under age 16 who drink energy drinks such as Monster, Rockstar, Red Bull and NOS, and because of disruptions at school that have occurred by students who have consumed those drinks, energy drinks are not allowed at Ridgeview Middle School during the school day.

Schools will be closed on Monday, September 2nd, due to the Labor Day holiday. Students will return on Tuesday, September 3rd.

Thanks go out to everyone who participated in last year’s Food City School Bucks Program. We are asking everyone to help us again by either going online to https://foodcity.com and log in to your account to link Ridgeview Middle School with your value card, or present your Value Card at the register and ask the cashier to link your card to Ridgeview Middle School bar code 40975. Reminder: everyone has to re-register their Food City Value Card every year.

With sincere thanks,
